Post #4 - Lecture

The lecture touched on the art history that comes from Native Americans. Starting as earlt as 1000BC when they were assumed to have covered the entire continent. From here we can see the ways in which they lived and survived through out the next thousands of years. They believed in similar things that are recognized by Christianity, such as being brough tby one single creater, and that there is a greater evil. Along with this they believe that all living and non-living things have a soul and that everything is connected as one. Native Americans have passed on their heritage mainly by storytelling, as these is a very sacreed and important things to them to pass down the many stories and beliefs that they have from generation to generations. The lecture then touches on the way the Greeks expressed their entertainment and art. Such as acting in incredible costumes and stories, to the gruesome events that occurred with the gladiators in Rome, as that is what at the time people thought art and entertainment was. Not only this but the change through time in the way that different countries built their most grandiose buildings; such as the Hagia Sophia to the gothic cathedrals. 

I personally like the pointy and thin type of architecture style of Gothic Cathedrals. Along with the fact that Gladiators were probably such a popular thing because I assume at the time war and violence was so popular that by being able to control it it became someting that people liked.

Discussion: The fact that storytelling in the native american country was such a big thing in the way that the more knowledged older people pass down their own ways of telling the different stories that are being passed down from generation to generation, not only by speech but with music and dances. I find it interesting the way that the greeks even though from the lack of technology they managed to find solutions or even just inventive ways on how to make experiences more powerful and entertaining. I also think that the fact that with cathedrals the way in which they believed that the taller it was the closer they were to God.

 It was believed that the Pinellas Point Mound is protected by the Native Americans with customs and rituals, therefore why it has been kept safe all through out the years. I think that any reason could be as to why these grounds are so intact from the place in which they were built to how they were built. Just how like the Greeks had their own ways to fortify their structures, Native Americans probably found solutions similar or even completely different to these.
